I have quite a lot of sempervivum, sedum etc and would like some help in identifying some of them and also am willing to swap some, although they are all quite small still.

Post sedum photos, sempervivums can not be idfentified from photos.

First of all, they differ in colour acording to light, temperature, soil and amount of water.

Secondl - there are 70 species and more than 4.000 cultivars, not to mention all teh seedlings that never got the name - not even an expert can identify a semps.

Se my blog how cultivars change over the seasons:

Hey Renee,
I have a species of sempervivum, dont know which one. To be honest I have no experience at all with plants, and my mom told me that cactus and succulents were low maintenance. Which Im sure is true, but I think I have somehow managed to kill my semp.

I dont water it often, say once every 2-3 weeks, its got full direct sunlight and in what I believe to be a well draining container.

Why is it dying? it was sooo beautiful when i bought it. Do i have to repot it? if so, what do i have to do? and what soil is needed?

Thank you soo much Very Happy

Gwen

Gwen, why watering it at all? Do you live in a dry area? Or do you keep your pot away from rain (and snow)?

I have my pots outside in an open, and it's been three years since I watered them - it was really hot summer back in 2005!

Lower leaves of plants dry up in fall / winter - this is normal way for ther plant to grow. If only this is the matter, than do not worry.

Hi Renee, Thank you for your reply.
I live in Melbourne, Australia and its a variety of weather here. I keep my succulents indoors. However, it is autumn now, and I think that might be why those leaves are drying.
Thank you So much!!
