after the flowers fell, the greenery was shiny and unblemished for the summer and it has been like this for over a decade.But the last two seasons it has been slightly less floriferous (but more than enough for us) but more concerning is that it is now so susceptible to disease. It looks terrible from August onwards as so many of the leaves fall to the ground having yellowed and or having been eaten by the Japanese beetle. At its worst it very much detracts from the garden that it is the most important member of.
