, another strong performance from a San Francisco 49ers rookie. Fifth round pick D.J. Reed had a huge kickoff return to open the second half, setting up a touchdown score that would prove key. Reed returned the kickoff 101 yards to the house, but was flagged for a facemask penalty near the end. The penalty was at the 11 yard line, so the return was officially 90 yards. It was the 49ers longest kickoff return since Kyle Williams registered a 94-yard kickoff return on September 23, 2012 against the Minnesota Vikings.Reed had four kick returns for 159 yards on the day. His other three returns were for 24, 22, and 25 yards. Those aren’t huge totals, but they got the 49ers out to or near the 25 yard line to start each drive. But the big return was enough to get him included on the Pro Football Focus’ team of the week for Week 2. It leaves Reed No. 2 in the NFL in kickoff return average.Reed had been alternating with Trent Taylor on kick returns. Although that 90-yard return was just one kick return, it’s an area where Reed excelled in college. As a sophomore http://www.49erscheapstore.com/laken-tomlinson-jersey-cheap
, he averaged 28.3 yards on nine kick returns. As a junior he averaged 34.2 yards on 17 kick returns. He has the skills to succeed as the returner, and hopefully he is the primary kick returner in Week 3.Here’s what Reed had to say after the game. You came up with a big play in the game with the return. Can you tell me a little bit about that play and at the end?“I just want to shout out all of my teammates that were blocking for me. Everyone held their blocks. For me it was easy and anybody could have done what I did. My whole special teams unit did a good job blocking. [San Francisco 49ers special teams coordinator] coach [Richard] Hightower did a good job setting it up and calling the play up. I just want to send a shout out to everybody.” It seemed like there were some missed opportunities last week. How do you think that this team has improved on executing and finishing?“I think that we still have a long way to go. That was an ugly win, but I will take an ugly win over a pretty loss. We still have a long way to go as a team. We have so much potential. We just have to keep building. We are going to watch the film tomorrow and build off of that so we can be ready for next week.” Like you said a W is a W; What kind of tone does that set for the season?“Everybody in here loves winning, whether it is ugly or pretty. Whatever it is we won. We just want to obviously keep winning. That is one of our goals is to win. That is why we are here.”49ers fantasy football pick-ups, drops for Week 5 There isn’t much to note as far as fantasy pick-ups for Week 5. With us figuring out who C.J. Beathard’s favorite target outside of George Kittle is, there’s no sure things on the San Francisco 49ers. We’ll jump into some pickups in the NFL at large, but not this week. There are still some considerations and starts to make in anticipation of the matchup against a bad Arizona Cardinals squad. Let’s take a look. As always, percentage owned numbers are based on Yahoo! leagues.Pick-ups49ers D/STWeek 4 stats: 29 PA, one interception Cheap Mike McGlinchey Jersey
, one touchdownMany of you have asked if we would even consider starting the 49ers D/ST against a bad, BAD Arizona Cardinals team. Our answer is: It depends. Now, before we go further, that’s not a good answer for a fantasy pick-up. If your league is scored using only points allowed by the D/ST, and you are hurting for a streaming defense, be it waiver positioning, a drought of teams, or a deep league, then maybe--and we say this with little confidence--maybe the 49er D/ST is an option this week. If your league awards points for sacks and interceptions (or in mine where you get a lot of points for a defense performing well) http://www.sanfrancisco49ersteamonline.com/joe-staley-jersey
, then stay far, far away from this. The 49ers will not generate enough of anything to be a game-changer. There are much worse defenses to pick up this week, and if you are desperate, the 49ers can be plugged in to hold down the fort in a crucial bye. But a lot of things need to be going against you to even consider this (like every team having two D/ST’s on their roster which is questionable to say the least). Pick up or don’t pick up: Don’t pick them up. Must-Start Status AlertGeorge Kittle% Owned: 88Week 4 stats: 6 receptions, 125 yards, one touchdownMr. Kittle’s and bits has gone from a sleeper draft choice, to a big pickup, to a must-start now that C.J. Beathard is chucking the ball to him. None of Beathard’s pass-catchers are standing out and we all know Garrett Celek isn’t going to do anything with his opportunities besides bat away potential touchdown passes. The 49ers get the Arizona Cardinals this week. As I’ve said, a bad Cardinals team. Slot Kittle in as your tight end this week if you haven’t already. And if you’re one of those lucky ones who have both Kittle and say Travis Kelce/Rob Gronkowski/Zach Ertz Nick Mullens 49ers Jersey
, put Kittle in as your flex (if allowed). Yes, he’s going to go off that much. We said last week Kittle was in must-start status and he didn’t disappoint. The Cardinals are much, much worse than the Chargers. Start with confidence. The only time Kittle should be benched is if your league rules do not allow you to flex him when having one of the above three tight ends.Pick up or don’t pick up: 88 percent? Some people haven’t pounced? If he’s available in your league GRAB HIM! START HIM!Fool’s goldAll of the 49ers wide receivers% Owned: Don’t get us started (again)Another week where none of the wide receivers outside of Kendrick Bourne do much of anything. We said wait a couple weeks and we weren’t kidding. If Sunday’s performance means anything, you may want to look at dropping them all. We say wait another week. The 49ers wide receivers are dealing with injuries and C.J. Beathard is trying to find a go-to pass catcher. For now, that’s Kittle, but defenses are going to figure that part out and he’ll have to go to the wide receivers. Give them another week, then drop accordingly, starting with Pierre Gar莽on. Drop or don’t drop: Wait one more week.
